The powers of humankind are unfairly funneled through a lens of negativity. The fact is that there are great people doing wonderful things to help promote positive changes throughout this country. These changes will affect the world for years to come. It is the responsibility of each man and women on this earth to attempt to leave their world better than how they received it. The American election system is designed to foster support for certain candidates through a series of campaigns. Possible presidential candidates vie for the support of citizens through these campaigns in order to gain favor in the polls. As the opinion polls reflect the choices of the populace, organizations and party members will begin to make their own choices based on these numbers. Presidential campaigns are about creating trust and expectation with United States citizens to gain their vote. However, campaigning is a long and expensive process. So expensive that even multi-millionaire candidates have dropped out of races because of the fees from their campaign trail.
Although sponsorship is normal, the problem comes from corporate sponsorship. After the case, Citizens United v. F.E.C. a 2010 case in which the Supreme Court in a 5-4 ruling decided that corporations unable to donate to a campaign violated First Amendment free speech rights. This idea that corporate entities can legally be known as people then began to become normalized. The problem with this is that campaigns are then flooded with millions of untraceable dollars that are used to influence candidates in their future decision making. Allowing this lays a foundation capable of producing political corruption on a large scale.
